Intro to geo data and web mapping with CartoDB

Instructors: Chad Nelson and Scott Williams

Description: Maps have been used to represent (and misrepresent) complex relationships, tell stories and gain new insights. We will provide an overview of mapping in the humanities today, discuss new tools available to you and guide you through the process of creating your own maps using a free online tool, CartoDB. We will also discuss some of the challenges to creating good maps and how you can connect CartoDB to tools that you may already be using.

No previous mapping experience is needed or expected.

Tech/Software Requirements: Participants should bring laptop computers and create an account on CartoDB.com (registration is free). Optional: A dataset you’d like to try and map.
